Dr. Vijay Bahl
Cohost, Music From India
A co-host of Music From India since 1985, Dr. Vijay Bahl was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. It was in Kenya as a high school student that Dr. Bahl worked on a youth radio show and discovered his deep-rooted love of Indian music.
After high school he attended medical school at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. During his time in medical school, Dr. Bahl branched out into the arts by writing, producing and acting in two, full-length plays. With medical school over, post-graduate work and research in Zambia followed.
Subsequently, Dr. Bahl immigrated to Pittsburgh in 1973. Trained at Shadyside Hospital (UPMC) in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, he now owns and works in his private practice while being a clinical associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also co-director of the Endocrine Fellowship Training Program at UPMC and is Chief of Division of Endocrinology at UPMC Shadyside.
Dr. Bahl is a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Diabetic Association and the Endocrine Society. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and American College of Clinical Endocrinology.
Music From India is one of DUQ's longest running programs and the only Indian music program in the tri-state region. Both hosts bring a unique artistic perspective to the program and many listeners may not realize that both hosts, Dr. Vijay Bahl and Harish Saluja, have completely volunteered their time and personal music collections-- more than 2,000 record albums, compact discs and tapes.
