What affiliation does DUQ have with Duquesne University?

Duquesne University holds the broadcast license for DUQ's 25,000-watt broadcast signal. The station is a non-academic unit reporting to the Provost and Academic Vice President. Duquesne University provides DUQ with annual in-kind support (facilities and services) and 6% of cash funding. DUQ is considered self-sustaining. This means that DUQ must raise its direct cash operating support from sources outside of the University, such as membership and program underwriting.

How is DUQ funded?

DUQ is a nonprofit, community-based, public radio station. More than 50% of DUQ's budget comes from financial contributions made by individuals each year. These donations are considered membership contributions and are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Over 25% of the budget comes from program underwriting by businesses and organizations. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress to support public television and radio, provides another portion of DUQ's budget. The balance comes from Duquesne University and various foundations providing grants for special projects.
